In 1890, the Springer Torsion Balance Co. boasted that the Style 254 was a very handsome and accurate Counter Scale that was nickel-plated throughout, that could be loaded with 20 pounds, that was sensitive to 2 grains, and that cost 30. In 1920, the Torsion Balance Co. noted that Style 254 was “Extensively used for heavy routine work in colleges and industrial plants.” At that time it had a capacity of 10 pounds, and was sensitive to 3 grains.
This scale weighs 24.4 pounds. Dimensions are approximately 16” x 9” x 7 1/2” in height. This scale has not been tested for accuracy.
Awesome antique piece! This scale was marketed for the apothecary industry between 1890 and 1920.
