Rare and beautiful piece of the GIEN "Grands Crustaces" line of faience dinner ware. This is number 12 in the series of 12 plates featuring different types of sea life. All the plates were hand painted earthenware. They were made in 1961 in France. The original design dates back to the 1930s. The edge of the plates feature a fish scale design. The backstamp is Gien, France with the plate number and is remarked by the artist. This plate is painted with a hermit crab and sea anenome. It is in near perfect condition, having never been used for eating, only display. It has no chips or cracks. It is 10" in diameter and weighs 1.2 lbs.
