In 1625 the city of Palermo was suffering a period of plague. Saint Rosalia appeared in a vision to a hunter near a cave just outside of the city. The following inscription was carved into the wall together with her remains. "I, Rosalia, daughter of Sinibald, Lord of Roses, and Quisquina, have taken the resolution to live in this cave for the love of my Lord, Jesus Christ.". The inscription and her remains were paraded in the streets of Palermo where 3 days later the plague disappeared.
